The woman in red

The Woman in Red is a 1984 romantic comedy film starring and directed by Gene Wilder. It co-stars Charles Grodin, Gilda Radner, Joseph Bologna, Judith Ivey and Kelly LeBrock.
The film is a remake of Un éléphant ça trompe énormément (An Elephant Can Be Extremely Deceptive) also known as Pardon mon affaire, directed by Yves Robert. It was written by Jean-Loup Dabadie, Yves Robert and Gene Wilder about a happily married man who fantasizes about having an affair with a very beautiful woman named Charlotte (Kelly LeBrock).
San Francisco ad man Teddy Pierce is amused by, then obsessed with a beautiful woman whose red dress goes whooshing over her head from a gust of wind as she crosses a grate (a la Marilyn Monroe in The Seven-Year Itch). Teddy is happily married to Didi, but he can't get this woman out of his mind. Encouraged by his buddies Buddy, Joe and Michael, he tries to ask her for a date but mistakenly phones Ms. Milner, a plain ad-agency employee, instead. Teddy ultimately does become acquainted with the woman, a model named Charlotte. He begins using elaborate ruses to see her socially without his wife finding out. Meanwhile, he incurs the wrath of Ms. Milner, whom he stands up. Events come to a head in Charlotte's high-rise apartment, where she invites Teddy into her bed. He is thrilled until her husband suddenly comes home. Teddy ends up on a ledge, where passersby below believe he is a potential suicide about to jump.

La signora in rosso (The Woman in Red) è un film del 1984 diretto dal regista Gene Wilder.
Remake del film francese Certi piccolissimi peccati (Un éléphant ça trompe énormément) di Yves Robert del 1976.
Il tema musicale "I Just Called to Say I Love You", scritta ed interpretata da Stevie Wonder, ha fatto guadagnare al film un Premio Oscar ed un Golden Globe.
Teddy Pierce (Gene Wilder) è un buon padre di famiglia di San Francisco. Lavora come responsabile in uno studio pubblicitario affermato, e frequenta il tennis club con gli inseparabili amici di sempre. Una mattina, nel garage della propria azienda, Pierce s'imbatte in Charlotte (Kelly LeBrock) l'affascinante donna in rosso: ultima modella scoperta dal suo superiore. La splendida giovane, non sapendo di essere osservata da Teddy, danza per qualche istante fatale sulla grata del ricircolo dell'aria, imitando la mitica Marilyn Monroe. L'effetto è immediato. Egli comincerà un corteggiamento al limite dell'assurdo, che lo porterà ad avere più grattacapi che altro, al punto che si ritroverà in accappatoio su di un cornicione al ventesimo piano di un palazzo del centro.
Una commedia brillante, priva di volgarità, che coinvolge gli spettatori, dove è l'ingenua stupidità del genere maschile ad essere presa di mira dal sottile umorismo di Gene Wilder, che firma la pellicola come regista oltre che come attore protagonista.
La colonna sonora del film, curata da John Morris e Stevie Wonder, include brani interpretati da Wonder, Dionne Warwick e Chris De Burgh. In particolare il brano I Just Called to Say I Love You di Stevie Wonder vinse sia l'oscar che il golden Globe per la migliore canzone originale nel 1985.

La celebre scena in cui Charlotte (Kelly LeBrock) passa al di sopra di uno scarico dell'aria che le fa sollevare la gonna, è una citazione del film del 1955 Quando la moglie è in vacanza, in cui nella stessa situazione veniva a trovarsi il personaggio interpretato da Marilyn Monroe. Anche la locandina di La signora in rosso è simile a quella di Quando la moglie è in vacanza: la protagonista femminile (La Monroe per Quando la moglie è in vacanza e la LeBrock per La signora in rosso) in primo piano con la gonna alzata dal vento, e alle sue spalle, raffigurato molto più "in piccolo", il protagonista maschile (Tom Ewell per il film del 1955 e Gene Wilder per quello del 1984).
